October 28, 2011: The Neighborhood Energy Connection (NEC) along with the City of Saint Paul, Larkin Construction, and community developer Sparc renovated two foreclosed homes in the Hamline-Midway neighborhood.
October 26, 2011: With an autumn chill in the air, now is the time of year to start thinking about saving some cold hard cash on energy costs this winter. In 2010, Xcel and CenterPoint Energy teamed up to bring a Home Energy Squad through Minnesota homes to find ways to make improvements that could reduce energy use.
October 26, 2011: Xcel Energy announces the 10,000th Home Energy Squad visit, a milestone the company says it reached earlier than expected due to positive customer response. Since its launch in January of 2010, the program has saved enough energy through its improvements to provide nearly 1,300 homes with electricity and natural gas for a year.
October 4, 2011: The City of Saint Paul, the Neighborhood Energy Connection and Xcel Energy today announced more options for sustainable transportation. Two new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are now available for use by members of HOURCAR, a car-sharing organization in Saint Paul and Minneapolis. In addition, the city is installing 20 public stations for charging plug-in electric vehicles.
September 28, 2011: Xcel Energy announced today the launch of the Home Energy Squad efficiency program in St. Cloud. The program’s successful Twin Cities launch prompted organizers to offer it in another Minnesota city.
September 1, 2011: Do you really need your own car? an increasing number of people in the Twin Cities are figuring out that they don't. Many of them have signed up for HOURCAR, the car sharing program run by the Neighborhood Energy Connection. Since its creation in 2005, the program has grown from 150 members and about a dozen cars to 1,550 and 29 cars, with another three to be added to the fleet this fall.
July 14, 2011: Home Energy Squads in St. Paul have hit a milestone, visiting their 4,000th home today helping to save energy and money. The squads go in to homes and make low cost upgrades — things like putting in new light bulbs, adding weather stripping and low-flow shower heads.
Semi-finalists were announced Monday in the seventh annual Minnesota Cup competition, a statewide contest that rewards the newest and most innovative business ideas.
The 47 semi-finalists will advance to the second phase of the contest in which they will compete to be named finalists in their respective categories.
