The NEC turned 30 this year.
For organizations and individuals, the 30th year is a time to take stock. In the past twelve months, we spent a lot of time reflecting on where we’ve been, what we’ve done and where we’re going.
We’re constantly working to find new approaches to fulfilling our mission. Just take a look at our recently published 2014-2015 annual update—the numbers show the ways in which we are continuing to expand both new and longstanding programs to better meet the needs of the community and the environment.
Here are a few highlights:
- Our Home Energy Squad and audit programs visited over 5,000 homes.
- HOURCAR became the first car sharing organization in the country to integrate shared car access with a major metropolitan area’s transit pass.
- Along with our partner the Center for Energy and Environment, we certified our 250th Energy Fit Home.
Our work has never been more relevant or necessary. Energy use and energy efficiency are increasingly prominent in our headlines, political discourse and casual conversations. At every level, there are big changes ahead.
Our job is to facilitate those changes by partnering with cities, utilities, contractors and community groups to develop and implement practical programs that make energy efficiency accessible for everyday people. After all, it’s what we’ve been doing since 1985.
It’s been a great three decades and we’re looking forward to many more. We know that our work will continue to be characterized by a unique mix of enthusiasm, community involvement and a willingness to experiment.
